Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery's second Mushroom Grow Bag Workshop was a success with 15 participants in attendance!
Eric Sanders of Friend of Fungi presented the process he uses to colonize grow bags for various species of mushrooms including oyster and lions mane mushrooms. Participant received a grow bag colonized with blue oyster mushrooms, recipe cards, and instructions on how to care for the colonized bags to ensure maximum yield. After cutting a hole in the bag to allow for growth, attendees were instructed to mist the hole with water each day until the fruiting bodies begin to form. Within a week, each grow bag will fruit large clusters of blue oyster mushrooms for harvesting. Eric guarantees one fruiting with proper care, with the potential for continuous fruiting indefinitely if placed in an appropriate location outdoors following the first two harvests.
A participant of the previous year's workshop reported to have harvested from their grow bag five times, each harvest yielding over a pound of mushrooms!
We would like to thank our partners; Friends of Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery, Inc., Friend of Fungi, and Russell County Public Library for helping us make this event possible!
