Volunteer Position Overview
About This Position
Gavins Point National Fish Hatchery is located adjacent to the Missouri River near Yankton, South Dakota. The facility has been producing fish for sport fishing and restoration projects for nearly 60 years. It is one of 70 federal hatcheries and fish technology centers operated nationwide by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Primary need for this position is for opening and closing the aquarium bld. from 10am to 5pm while maintaining the cleanliness of the restrooms. Volunteers may also be able to take part in tours, fish spawning, and lawn mowing utilizing zero turn mowers if skillset and time is available. This 13,000 gallon aquarium has a free admission and is a nice cool place to stop on a hot summer day. We typically have 40+ mostly-local species of fish, amphibians, and reptiles on display. The gift shop is open Friday-Monday during much of the summer too.
RV Pads - There are two camping pads at the hatchery complete with water, sewer, electric hookups and Wi-Fi.
