What is the City Nature Challenge?
The City Nature Challenge (CNC) is an exciting global event that empowers individuals to explore and document wildlife in their urban spaces. From April 25-28, 2025, Deer Flat National Wildlife encourages you to step into the role of a community scientist and help us capture the rich biodiversity of Canyon County!
Get ready to connect with nature as you share your observations of wild plants, animals, and fungi that thrive right in your backyard and local parks. All observations made within Canyon County during April 25 - 28 will automatically contribute to the challenge.

Why participate in the City Nature Challenge?

A national wildlife refuge is typically a contiguous area of land and water managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for the conservation and, where appropriate, restoration of fish, wildlife and plant resources and their habitats for the benefit of present and future generations of Americans.

How to Participate
Date and Location
To contribute to the Canyon County CNC's efforts, timeframe is from Friday, April 25, through Monday, April 28, and can be done anywhere in Canyon County—from your backyard to your local national wildlife refuge!
Create an Account
Create a free account at iNaturalist.org or download the app on your smartphone (available in iOS and Android). Make sure to join the “CNC 2025: Canyon County” project in iNaturalist to contribute to this year's CNC's efforts!
Explore your Surroundings
- Find Wildlife - You can document any plants, animals, fungi, insects, or signs of wildlife (such as scat, fur, etc.) that you find in your city.
- Take a Picture - Take photos or record a sound of the wild organism. Make sure photos are focused and close-up to help with identification.
- Upload and Share! - Share your observations on iNaturalist, either through the app or their website.

¿Qué es el Reto Naturalista Urbano?
El City Nature Challenge o Reto Naturalista Urbano (en español) es un emocionante evento a nivel mundial que anima a los individuos a explorar y documentar la vida silvestre en sus espacios urbanos. Del 25 al 28 de abril de 2025, el Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre Deer Flat te invita a asumir el papel de científico comunitario y nos ayudes a capturar la abundante biodiversidad de Canyon County.
Prepárate para conectar con la naturaleza mientras compartes tus observaciones de plantas silvestres, animales y hongos que puedes encontrar en tu patio trasero y en los parques locales. Todas las observaciones realizadas dentro de Canyon County durante el 25 al 28 de abril contribuirán automáticamente al reto.

¿Cómo Participar?
Fecha y Ubicación
Para contribuir a los esfuerzos del Reto Urbano Naturalista, este se llevara a cabo desde el viernes 25 de abril hasta el lunes 28 de abril, y se puede realizar en cualquier lugar de Canyon County, ¡desde tu patio trasero hasta tu refugio nacional de vida silvestre más cercano!
Crea una Cuenta
Crea una cuenta gratuita en iNaturalist.org o descarga la aplicación en tu teléfono (disponible en iOS y Android). Asegúrate de unirte al proyecto “CNC 2025: Canyon County” en iNaturalist para contribuir a los esfuerzos del Reto Urbano Naturalista de este año.
Explora la Naturaleza
- Encuentra Vida Silvestre: Puedes documentar cualquier planta, animal, hongo, insecto o signo de vida silvestre (como excrementos, pieles, etc.) que encuentres en tu ciudad.
- Toma una Foto - Toma fotos o graba un sonido del organismo silvestre que encuentres. Asegúrate de que las fotos estén enfocadas para facilitar la identificación.
- ¡Comparte! - Comparte tus observaciones en iNaturalist, ya sea a través de la aplicación o en su sitio web.
