Bell Island Pier and Road on Swanquarter National Wildlife Refuge will be closed to all public access beginning mid-March for the construction of a stone breakwater structure structure
Something temporarily or permanently constructed, built, or placed; and constructed of natural or manufactured parts including, but not limited to, a building, shed, cabin, porch, bridge, walkway, stair steps, sign, landing, platform, dock, rack, fence, telecommunication device, antennae, fish cleaning table, satellite dish/mount, or well head.
Learn more about structure . The new breakwater will enhance and extend the current structure and provide long-term protection to the shoreline and parking area of this popular fishing destination. Construction will require removal of a short section of pier and use of the parking lot as a delivery and staging area. The contractor estimates construction will continue through December 2025.
