COURSE SESSION
Target Audience:
Maintenance professionals with no to little experience with welding.
Summary and Objectives:
This course is designed to provide maintenance professionals with basic and intermediate metal welding and cutting skills. This course will cover most welding and cutting processes commonly used at field stations and facilities with hands-on learning of SMAW (stick), GMAW (mig), Oxy-Acetylene torch, and Plasma torch use. This course will also provide an understanding of basic metallurgy, fabrication, and metal repair.
Students for this class must provide their own basic PPE: safety-toed boots, eye protection (clear), ear protection, and appropriate uniform attire. Welding hoods, jackets, gloves, other safety equipment, and welding materials will be provided by NCTC for this class.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe basic metal welding, brazing, and cutting techniques.
- Demonstrate how to assemble, inspect, and adjust welding equipment.
- Demonstrate safe practices using welding and cutting equipment.
- Use multiple processes and equipment to complete quality welds.
- Use multiple processes to cut metal.
- Demonstrate basic fabrication and layout techniques.
