About Allison Smart
I am a citizen of the Sault Ste Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. From 2012-2022 I worked in various roles for the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Natural Resources Department. I hold a bachelor’s degree from Albion College in biology and anthropology and a master’s degree in conservation biology from Central Michigan University. The focus of my master’s thesis was on the abiotic habitat variables of manoomin (Z. palustris & Z. aquatica) in Michigan. Manoomin brought me home to my culture. My work is focused on relationship building, collaboration and communication between the Service and the Tribes within our region.
