The Missouri River is currently accessible by vehicle at the Overton Bottoms North unit only; a boat ramp there also allows river access. At the Overton Bottoms unit, scour holes left behind by major floods provide good fishing for warm-water species. A one-mile walking trail in the Jameson Island unit also leads to the Missouri River, with good fishing. Fishing access is a considerable hike through thick vegetation in other units of the refuge. Fishing from a boat on the Missouri River is always allowed. Available species include largemouth bass, channel catfish, bullhead, bluegill, crappie and white bass.
