Anytime of the year is a good time to Drive through Ash Meadows NWR. Each season provides wonderful opportunities for wildlife observation, and surprising landscapes in this rare oasis. Dirt road tips: all roads in the refuge are dirt roads. Check our website for current road conditions before your trip.
Dirt road driving tips:
- traction on dirt roads is not the same as on a paved road. Please slow down and observe all speed limit signs.
- Dirt roads are more likely to have holes, dips, and uneven ground. Watch for uneven ground.
- Increase your following distance from the car ahead of you. It will kick up dust, making it difficult to see and/or kick up rocks, which could cause damage to your car.
