North Carolina State University graduate student April Lamb, working with Dr. Jesse Fischer, tested growing wild celery (Vallisneria americana), a type of submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV), in Lake Mattamuskeet in exclosures designed to keep out invasive common carp. Plants in the exclosures survived longer than plants outside the exclosures, showing promise for SAV restoration in the lake if carp populations are reduced.
